The Root Seller Gallery (now the working studio of Libby Mathews)
Nestled in the beautiful mountains of northeast Georgia, The Root Seller is located behind the popular Timpson Creek Gallery, just a few miles outside of Clayton. A short day trip from Atlanta, Clayton receives a large influx of travelers seeking respite from the city, enjoying the beauty of the mountain lakes, waterfalls, and small town charm. Numerous outdoor activities attracting adventurous visitors range from fishing, hiking, cycling and kayaking. Rabun county is conveniently located near the borders of South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Our Instructors
Kathy Corey is an artist and printmaker. An award winning artist at some of the top-rated art shows throughout the US, Kathy also was Director of Youth Programming at Crealde School of Art. She has served as juror and curator for many art shows and competitions, including the Congressional Art Competition, which she co-judged with Pierre Matisse, the great grandson of painter Henri Matisse. Her work is in private collections and public museums, including a Smithsonian affiliated museum and on Capitol Hill.
Award winning artist, Laura McCue has been painting in watercolor since 1998. She excels in animal portraiture and is commissioned by pet owners across the country. Laura has been twice featured with the North Georgia Arts Guild in the Rabun Laurel magazine. She was a summer art camp instructor in Winter Park, Florida and has been teaching children’s art classes in Dillard, Georgia for the last three years. She and Kathy teach art classes for children and adults in the Purple Door Studio.
